Less than Truckload (LTL) Shipping Workflow for Amazon FBA
Introduction
In this guide, we will walk through the new LTL workflow. LTL is short for "Less than Truckload", which is for sending pallets instead of individual boxes into Amazon. If you are sending enough inventory into FBA to fill a pallet, the cost savings for LTL can be significant. Let's dig in!
Select LTL Option
When you confirm your box contents in ScanLister, you will now see an option for "Less than Truckload (LTL)" Simply select this option to continue.
Choose Ship Date
Once you enter the LTL shipping workflow, you can choose your shipping "ready" date. This is the date your pallet(s) will be ready for pickup.
Placement Options
Next, you can choose your placement options. Be careful here to match the number of shipments to the number of pallets you are sending.
You can see in the example that Amazon is offering a placement option with 5 shipments. If I choose this option, Amazon will expect us to send at least 5 separate pallets.
Placement Option Match
Since we only have one pallet, we will choose a placement option with only one shipment.
Once your selection is complete, confirm, then click "next" to continue.
Print FBA Box Labels
On this screen, we can print our FBA box labels. Amazon requires each box to have the corresponding FBA box label.
Contact Information
You can also print 2D box contents labels for each box, however, this step is optional as we have already submitted box contents information in the previous step.
Next, ensure your contact information is correct as this will be the primary contact info the freight carrier will use to schedule your pickup. The email is optional, but can be helpful for receiving the bill of lading when it is ready.
Freight Class
Enter the declared value if desired and the appropriate freight class. It is very important to use the correct freight class as it has a significant impact on shipping costs. If your chosen freight class is i ncorrect, Amazon will likely default to a more expensive class.
Understanding Freight Class
Freight class represents the density of your pallet calculated by the weight and dimensions of your pallet. There are free freight class calculators online to ensure you have the correct value.
Add Pallet
Next, click "add" to add the pallet info.
Enter Pallet Info
Enter the pallet info. A standard pallet will have a length and width of 40 by 48 inches. Ensure to add the correct height and weight, then click ok.
Review Shipment Summary
Once complete, click next, then confirm.
On this next screen, you will see a summary of your shipment, along with the estimated freight charges. We automatically select the least expensive carrier, but you can review available carriers and make any desired changes.
Accept Charges
Once your selection is complete, click "Accept charges and confirm shipping". Note, if you need to cancel this shipment, you must do so within one hour to avoid charges.
Shipment Complete
Your shipment is now complete, but there are a few remaining tasks.
This screen shows the shipment summary, and you can print your box labels here if you have not done so already.
Print Pallet Labels
Once your pallet is shrink wrapped, you must print, then place the "pallet labels" on each of the four sides of your pallet, on the outside of the shrink wrap.
Bill of Lading
The "bill of lading" will take some time to generate and will be available sometime prior to the pickup date. You can return to this screen to print the BOL by visiting the feeds section or you may receive it via email if you provided an email address in the previous step. Alternatively, you can print the BOL directly on seller central within the shipments section.
Carrier Pickup
Once you have completed the shipment, the freight carrier will contact you to arrange pickup.
