Print Product ID Label
Create unique barcodes for non-barcoded products.
What is the Print Product ID Label feature?
The Print Product ID Label feature lets you generate a unique, scannable barcode for items that don’t already have one. It’s ideal for efficient inventory management and accurate box-contents tracking within ScanLister.
Why use Product ID labels?
Benefit 1: Eliminate manual data entry
Save time: When building box contents, scan your Product ID label instead of re-typing product IDs.
Improve accuracy: Reduce human error by removing repeated manual entry.
Benefit 2: Streamlined inventory management
Consistent workflow: Treat non-barcoded items like regular products during scanning.
Better tracking: Give difficult-to-track items a reliable, scannable identifier.
Real-world examples
Example: Vintage books
Problem: Older books without ISBN barcodes require manual entry every time.
Solution: Print a Product ID label, attach it, and scan it like any other item during inventory management.
Example: Handmade items
Problem: Custom or craft items don’t have manufacturer barcodes.
Solution: Generate Product ID labels to track these unique items throughout your workflow.
Example: Collectibles
Problem: Vintage toys or collectibles often lack modern barcodes.
Solution: Create Product ID labels to integrate them into your digital inventory system.

Common usage strategies
FBA integration
- Process: Print Product ID label first
- Then: Apply FNSKU label over the Product ID
- Good for: FBA products without existing barcodes
MF-only items
- Process: Print and apply Product ID label
- Scan: Use it throughout your workflow
- Good for: Merchant-Fulfilled items without barcodes
Inventory tracking
- Process: Label items during the initial listing stage
- Benefit: Keeps scanning workflow consistent
- Good for: Large-volume operations
Important reminders
- For FBA products, the FNSKU label must always be placed directly over the Product ID label.
- Product ID labels are for internal workflow; they don’t replace required Amazon labels.
- Use the same printer setup as your FNSKU labels for consistency.
- Product ID labels work best for items you’ll process multiple times in your inventory workflow.
Troubleshooting
“Print Product ID” button isn’t showing
Ensure Settings → General → Show button to print Product ID is enabled. The feature must be activated before the button appears.
Product ID labels aren’t printing properly
Verify your Settings → Printer configuration. Select the correct printer and confirm it’s connected.
Do I need Product ID labels for items that already have barcodes?
No. If a product has a UPC, ISBN, or other scannable code, use that instead.
Can I use Product ID labels for FBA products?
Yes. Apply the FNSKU label over the Product ID label. The Product ID helps internally before applying the required FNSKU.
